Teresa did a trick in which she placed dishes on a tablecloth placed on a card table. She pulled quickly on the tablecloth, and it came off the table, leaving the dishes behind on the table. Teresa’s friend tried the same trick and ended up with a pile of broken dishes on the floor. Teresa told her that she didn’t pull the cloth fast enough. She also said that her friend might have better results with heavier dishes. Using Newton’s laws, explain why these were good suggestions.

the speed of the cloth being pulled left no time for the dishes to move. heavier dishes have a harder time moving because of the gravitational pull. In the second law, the force on an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration. if the dishes had no acceleration they will not move.

the textural difference is that plutonic rocks are more coarse grained than volcanic rocks. plutonic rocks are coarse grained while volcanic are fine grained ; glassey or fragmental. since fine and coarse are adjectives the decision as to whether a rock is fine or coarse grained is generally made on the bases of whether or not the individual crystals can be seen in most if the rock.
