Blood doping works through a process of increasing the number of red-blood cells in the body. These red-blood cells carry oxygen to the skeletal muscle which improves the individual's performance by increasing the individual's aerobic capacity and endurance.

When the individual's aerobic capacity is increased (as a result of increased red blood cell in this case) in the muscle, the muscle cells undergo aerobic cellular respiration which causes more ATP to be produced as the aerobic capacity is increased. This is the reason for the endurance enjoyed by an individual who does/undergoes blood doping.
