Well, the older the earth gets, the more species that must have developed to form our currenting existing species. Our earth is millions of years old meaning many pre-existing species must have been fossilised over the progression over earth to our current state with current living organisms. Overall, since the age of the earth is very old it has influenced us in our findings since we know that using the earth's age and using math, there must have been a pre-existing species that formed our current species. So the age of the earth can influence our findings such as: Filling in the timeline for a specific species i.e Lets say a crocodile fossil was found and it was determined that it regined in the 1300, and then we find another crocodile fossil which coordinates that it reigned in the 1600. Using math we can determine that there must have been another crocodile specie apart from the 2 gives since the timelines are too far.
