Multicellular organisms use cell division, mitosis, for growth and the maintenance and repair of cells and tissues. There are few cells in the body that do not undergo mitosis: most somatic cells divide regularly, some more than others. Single-celled organisms may use
cell division as their method of reproduction. Regardless of the reason for mitosis, the process ensures genetic continuity. Consider
the model of the cell cycle. Explain the purpose of the areas labelled checkpoint in the cycle? ALL BUT ONE could apply.
les )
A)
G1 the checkpoint where an animal cell becomes committed to the cell
cycle, which is determined by external factors and signals.
B)
The spindle checkpoint prevents separation of the duplicated
chromosomes until each chromosome is properly attached to the spindle
fibers.
The G2 checkpoint ensures all of the chromosomes have been replicated
and that the replicated DNA is not damaged before cell enters mitosis.
Cell size, protein reserves, and damage to DNA is evaluated at the S
checkpoint; the cell will not be allowed to continue if any problems are
detected.
D)

How do temperature and salinity affect deepwater currents? they create changes in wind direction, moving denser water in the same direction as the wind and causing the deepwater circulation patterns found in the ocean. as temperatures and salinity levels of water increase, the water rises to the surface where it creates currents as it moves to colder regions. they create density differences that cause dense deepwater currents to flow toward the equator where they displace less dense, warmer water above them. they equalize the forces on undersea currents caused by the coriolis effect as they replace more dense water with less dense water.

Based on the observations provided, what is the relationship of current diabetes medication use and the use of extract from ginko biloba? a) the anti-inflammatory properties of ginko biloba extract are beneficial in treating t2d separate from the benefits of other therapies. b) the overall abundance of ginko biloba makes this extract an attractive joint therapy for existing medications that are used to treat t2d. c) the side effects of t2d medications have resulted in the need for different therapies to treat t2d like the use of ginko biloba extract. d) clinical outcomes from the use of current t2d medications may be improved through the use of cost-effective ginko biloba extract treatment. e) previous studies with ginko biloba and current t2d medications do not support the use of these treatments as effective against t2d in patients.
