Explanation

The light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis require energy from the sun to split a molecule of water into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is released and the hydrogen ions are used as energy for the next steps, as is ATP.

In  the light independent reactions, sugar is made from carbon dioxide using the energy from the light-dependent steps
