The experimental design involves three fish tanks each containing goldfish and sympatric non-competitive species populations composed of 100 individuals (N = 100), which must be maintained in three different temperature treatments.

Explanation:

1- First fish tank: water to the same temperature than its natural environment (for example 25 C)

2- Second fish tank: water temperature  2°C higher than its natural environment (27 °C)

3- Third fish tank:  water temperature  2°C lower than its natural environment (23 °C)

Null hypothesis: temperature treatments does not modify the survival of goldfish populations  

Independent variable: temperature treatments

Dependent variable: Goldfish survivance over n generations

Negative control: First fish tank (water to the same temperature than natural environment)

Control group: sympatric non-competitive species populations
