A benign lesion in the lungs, which originates before birth in the form of a mass or cyst in the chest is termed as CCAM or Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation. It is formed of an unusual lung tissue, which does not work appropriately, however, it continues to develop. CCAM is also known as CPAM or congenital pulmonary airway malformation.  

It is a common fetal lung lesion. It originates before the birth of the baby, and can differ in size and can be either solid or filled with fluid. A small cyst or solid appearing lesion is known as microcystic, and a large cyst is termed as a macrocytic lesion.
