A scientific theory is important because it is an explanation of an aspect of the natural world that can be repeatedly tested and verified in accordance with the scientific method, using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results. Theories can be proven or rejected, just like hypotheses. Theories can be improved or modified as more information is gathered so that the accuracy of the prediction becomes greater over time.

A scientific law is important  because it is a description of an observed phenomenon. It doesn't explain why the phenomenon exists or what causes it. The explanation of a phenomenon is a scientific theory.

Scientific laws do not have absolute certainty (as theorems do), and it is always possible for a law to be contradicted, restricted, or extended by future observations.
