The scientist wanted to create children who were resistant to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The Chinese scientist used CRISPR-Cas9 to disable a gene called CCR5, which encodes a protein that enables HIV to infect cells. This announcement caused outrage in the international scientific community. While genomic editing of bacteria and viruses is commonly used in science, genetic editing of humans remains highly controversial. Genome editing or any research based on humans as a subject is considered very controversial and have always created anger even in the case of clinical trials.Genome editing has been conducted on animals for years and the results and side effects are the reasons that the human specimens cannot be used for experimentation.

Dangers of genome editing in humans:

The accuracy rate of gene editing is still not 100% and they are chances that unintended changes can occur during editing.These mistakes and errors can affect the human as a whole and will ruin its whole life.The possibility of getting cancers and getting vulnerable to biological attacks makes gene editing in humans a disadvantage.

Thus, human gene editing is a controversial issue.

It generated anger because:

1) Human gene editing is highly controversial as humans are considered the "top" organisms and any tests conducted on humans whether it be clinical trials of medicine and such need to be approved and need to be ethical.

2) We are still years behind in terms of knowledge of genomic editing on animals and its side effects, and taking this in account, performing such editing with humans is obviously going to draw controversy as we do not know enough about genomic editing.

Dangers of editing in humans:

1) Although Crispr-Cas9 is highly accurate, it is still capable of making mistakes and we are still unsure about how those mistakes can affect the whole human. After all, the editing needs to be done in embryo for it to make a pronounced effect later in life on the grown human so any mistakes could ruin the new life of this human.
