Explore: Three Primary Types of Plate Boundaries-

Part One
Directions:
List the various types of crust movements for each type of boundary.
Describe what type of movement is occurring in each type of plate boundary.
List the major geological events that result from each type of plate boundary movement.

Convergent Boundary

Directions of Plate Movement:

The plates move towards each other and collide.

Major Geological
Earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains

Divergent Boundary

Directions of Plate Movement:
The plates pull apart from each other.

Major Geological Events:
Trenches, valleys

Transform Boundary

Directions of Plate Movement:
The plates slide past each other.

Major Geological Events:
Earthquakes, valleys, trenches

Part Two:
Now it is time to get creative. If you can use food or craft supplies or recyclable items that you have at home to represent the plate movements. A good place to start with your ideas might be graham crackers and peanut butter or cream cheese or something like this. Show the three main types of movements- convergent, divergent and transform. Can you take a pic and post it to google classroom? I will turn on the post comments for a few days. Show the three separate movements. You will be able to find many ideas online as well- milky way candy bars are a great example as well. Keep in mind that you are trying to represent the layers of the earth as well as the plate movements. The crust (lithosphere) being thin and brittle. The mantle (asthenosphere) being a flexible and a gooey (magma) type substance. Have fun with this and please share your creations.

Part Three:
Check out the song from Mr. Parr about the Plate Movements: Search Cracked Up - Plate Tectonics Song by Mr. Parr. This is a good review.

Considering the yellow and green pea color phenotypes studied by gregor mendel: a. what is the biochemical function of the protein that is specified by the gene responsible for the pea color phenotype? (1 point) b. a null allele of a gene is an allele that does not specify (or encode) any of the biochemical function that the gene normally provides (in other words, either no protein at all or only non-functional protein is produced from it). of the two alleles, y and y, which is more likely to be a null allele? (1 point) c. in terms of the underlying biochemistry, why is the y allele dominant to the y allele? (2 points) d. why are peas that are yy homozygotes green? (1 point) e. the amount of protein produced from a gene is roughly proportional to the number of functional copies of the gene carried by a cell or individual. what do the phenotypes of yy homozygotes, yy heterozygotes, and yy homozygotes tell us about the amount of sgr enzyme needed to produce a yellow color? explain your reasoning.
