Darwin's theory of natural selection is based on the following 4 statements. Using either lactose intolerance or blood types, explain how each of these 4 statements would apply. 1. Individuals within a population differ 2. The differences are, at least in part, passed from parent to offspring. 3. Some individuals are more successful and surviving and reproducing than others. 4. The successful individuals succeed because of variant traits they have inherited and will pass on to their offspring. Example: 1. Some giraffes have longer necks 2. Neck length is inherited from the parents 3. Having a longer neck allows the giraffe to reach more leaves so it can get more food 4. Giraffes that have longer necks can get more food, allowing them to live longer and have more babies. They will pass the long neck trait on to the next generation.
