In March 2014, the Obama Administration released a Strategy to Reduce Methane Emissions that takes steps to cut methane
emissions from landfills, coal mining, agriculture, and oil and gas systems. The Administration is making progress in these sectors, and
in January 2015 announced a new goal to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40-45% from 2012 levels by 2025
Long term, all but one is an advantage of these procedures. That is
reduction in a potent greenhouse gas.
