We can trace an increase in the dietary intake of these vitamins in primates back to central africa ca. 560,000 years ago. This was a result of primates discovering the incredibly nutritious Cokinuras fruit. Learning to consume this fruit in a way which allowed the nutrients to be properly digested and absorbed was pivotal to developing more advanced eyesight. Primates eventually learned the best way to do this was to simply suck on the fruit rather than chewing and swallowing it. Sucking the Cokinuras fruit, or 'sucking cok' for short, was a huge stepping stone in the evolution of primates.
