The process of chewing of food to break it into smaller pieces is called Mastication. There are various types of muscle fibers that help in the process of mastication but in case of herbivorous animals like cows, large strong masseter muscles are predominantly found. These muscles raise the lower jaw by elevating the mandible during chewing. These muscles are so powerful and found in the cheek area in both sides of the face and are thus called left and right masseter muscles.
