- Each class is broken down into ORDERS

- Orders into FAMILIES,

- Families into GENUS

- Genus into SPECIES

Thus, the system of classification from highest (most general category) to the lowest level is as follows: Kingdom --> phylum/division --> class --> order --> family --> genus --> species
