Explanation: Normally, every trait is controlled by a gene occurring in pair. The pair of gene contains two alleles which can either be identical or not. These pairs of gene are represented with letters and are referred to as the genotype. An allele can be dominant or recessive. A dominant allele is one which can express itself outwardly in the presence of a recessive allele, it has the ability to mask the effect of a recessive allele. Dominant alleles are represented in upper cases such as T, R, B, A. When a dominant allele occurs in a pair with a recessive allele, its trait will be expressed outwardly. When an individual has a genotype of Tt for height, he has one dominant allele T and one recessive allele t, this individual will manifest as a tall individual because of the presence of the dominant allele T.
