A typical food chain will start with an autotroph and go through several heterotrophs until they reach an Ultimate predator. Once the energy flows starts with the sun as original source of energy.

from the sun it traped in autotrophs like plants and algae called producers.Primary consumers that are herbivores eat autotrophs and get 10% of the total energy autotrophs.Secondary consumers normally heterotrophs eat on primary consumers and get 10% of the total energy of primary consumers.It continues until reaches to Ultimate predators.all the organisms decompose and release energy into the atmosphere.energy system it gets recycled for future use in other organisms.
