Living cells undergo metabolic reactions from time to time. Metabolic reactions constitutes the series of building up and breaking down of molecules. The building up of larger organic molecules from smaller ones is referred to as ANABOLISM. A very vivid example of an anabolic process is the photosynthesis that occurs in the Chloroplast of plant cells.

In photosynthesis, plants combine inorganic carbondioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to form a more complex organic molecule called glucose. Anabolic processes like photosynthesis usually require energy to build up the molecules, in the case of the photosynthesis, plants uniquely get this energy by trapping light energy from sun to power this process.

lipids: (fats, oils, and waxes) are made of carbon and hydrogen atoms.

proteins: made up of nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. they are polymers of amino acids.
