Americans has exceeded  the limit of it's consumption of annual ecosystem. Ecological Footprint works by calculating the demand of population and supply of the environment.

Demand side: The Ecological Footprint estimates the ecological assets like plant-based product, timber, livestock, etc that a population requires for producing the natural resources it consumes and the absorption of waste.

Supply side: Americans bio capacity or supply estimates the production of its ecological assets like cropland, grazing land, forest land, etc. If these areas are left unharvested, much more waste that are generated will be absorbed.

first, as you point out, it would be a great advance in pharmacology, to be able to tailor drugs and their doses to me. the pros involve better medical treatment. the cons involve privacy issues like insurance companies denying coverage to people with genetic risk factors. looking at dna markers wouldn't affect the frequency of genetic diseases, but it would allow detection of them earlier. and ok, actually i suppose that if people used this information to avoid having children with genetic diseases, some might decrease in frequency."
