The large population of the globe at present is not a result of  population growth over a long period of time. Instead the population growth was fast. Before 1800 the population growth of the globe was rather slow.  

It took very many years for the population to reach around 1 billion in the year 1800. But the trends in population growth changed rapidly after the 1800s.  In 2016 the population of the globe was around 7 billion which was 7 times the population in 1800.
