Ihave a science exam on wednesday, october 16th. we never got to learn much about the parts of a cell. i mean by vacuoles, cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus (already know this one) chloroplast, cytoplasm (already know this one) and we watched a video but it literally was like a grade 12 video because we never knew any words the girl was talking about.

The vacuole is used as storage for materials. The cell membrane is used to guard the inside of the cell, is semi-permeable, and controls what goes in and out of the cell. The membrane is made of a phospholipid bilayer (made of fats) and has protein channels to allow objects through that are too large to diffuse through the membrane. The cell wall is an extra layer of protection and structure, but only for plant cells. The chloroplast is also in plant cells but not animal cells and is where photosynthesis occurs, converting water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide into glucose and leftover oxygen. The mitochondria (aka the powerplant of the cell) converts glucose into ATP energy. There are other organelles which are a little bit more complex, so I suggest referring to the linked video. It is produced to be easier to understand.

I suggest watching a video from the "Amoeba Sisters" on the parts of a cell. They produce their videos to be easy to understand.

prophase: we can observe the chromosomes to coil up and condense. they become visible. nuclear membrane and envelope disintigrate.s

metaphase: chromosomes align at the center, the metaphase plate. spindle fibers attach to centromeres of the sister chromatids. they meet at kinetochores.

anaphase: sister chromatids are pulled towards each opposing centromere, set on different poles.

telophase: chromosomes are now clustered up only on either sides of the cell. nuclear membranes reform, and a new cell wall forms along the cell plate. this will lead to cytokinesis, the process that divides the cell membrane and forms the cell wall.
