Ciliated epithelial cells. Cilia are tiny hair like structures on the surface of the cell. The hairs sweep hair, mucus, trapped dust and bacteria up to the back of the throat where it can be swallowed.

Cartilage is a soft, spongy connective tissue. The bones in a synovial joint are connected by ligaments. Ligaments are a type of connective tissue and are tough, fibrous and slightly elastic. They connect bone to bone and help keep the joint together.

Each type of muscle tissue in the human body has a unique structure and a specific role. Skeletal muscle moves bones and other structures. Cardiac muscle contracts the heart to pump blood. The smooth muscle tissue that forms organs like the stomach and bladder changes shape to facilitate bodily functions

Nervous tissue is composed of three main parts: nerves, the spinal cord and the brain. The primary function of nervous tissue is to receive stimuli and send the impulse to the spinal cord and brain. The brain sends back a response to the muscles via the nerves.
