Conjugation:

Conjugation may be defined as the process of exchange of genetic material in bacteria. This is a type of mechanism of horizontal gene transfer. The donor bacteria transfers its genetic material to the acceptor bacteria. The tra genes are important for the process of conjugation.

The process of conjugation is beneficial for the bacteria as it allows the exchange pf genetic material. The environmental resistance and various important genes can be acquired by bacteria during the process of conjugation.
