Yes, I agree that the discovery of  DNA model by Watson and Crick took help from the work of many other scientists which were not credited with the discovery as much as both of them were credited.

One of the major breakthroughs made in the discovery of DNA structure was the work of a female scientist, Rosalind Franklin who did X-ray crystallography  according to which DNA was helical in shape. Watson and Crick took strong support from this theory and proved that DNA was helical in shape. However, she was a perfectionist and she had not published her work yet while the Watson and Crick were fast enough to do so. Before that Watson and Crick while working independently formulated incorrect DNA models in which bases were placed outside while phosphate groups were outside. However, Rosalind Franklin's work was of substantial help to both of them. There was another colleagues of Franklin, Maurice Wilkins who was working with Franklin in doing X-ray studies. n 1962  Watson,  Crick, and Maurice  Wilkins were jointly honored with   the Nobel Prize in   medicine for their model of DNA in 1953 but she was not nominated for Nobel price because it could only be shared by three scientists maximum and Franklin was died by that time too.

Therefore, i think it was not fair with Franklin that she never received the credit of the work which she did tirelessly and which became basis of modern DNA model.
