Describe the anatomy of the skull. your answer should include 1) the names for all bones covered in class, and 2) specific description(s) for where each bone is located in the skull, relative to one another or an organ of the head. extra credit will be given if you use the directional/positional terms as part of your answer. ex: the bone is located on the side of the head near the ear. the bone is located next to the bone, and is also below the bone.

Without knowing what bones were covered in your class, I'll include the bones that I cover in the classes that I teach.

Frontal - forehead, eyebrow, upper eyesockets

Parietal - two of them, top of the head

Occipital - back of the head

Temporal - sides of the head, including the mastoid processes and zygomatic arches

Zygomatic - cheek bones

Sphenoid - back of the nose, behind the eyes

Maxilla - upper lip, mustache

Madible - lower jaw

Vomer - inside the nose, also referred to as the septum

Nasal - top of the nose

Lacrimal - inside the eye sockets, proximal to the nose

I believe that's all of the bones of the skull.

relative dating involves things like higher layers are most recent than rocks lower in the sequence. this can be extended to the known sequence of fossils. rocks containing rabbit fossils are later than those containing dinosaur fossils.  

absolute dating methods mainly use radioactive elements that have known rates of decay and produce recognizable products. for example potassium 40 decays to produce argon. once a rock has solidified the argon is trapped. by measuring the argon and potassium0 you can get an accurate number for the age.  

some other methods are good for archaeological ages. dendrochronology involves recognizing the sequence of tree rings. the orientation of magnetized particles in baked clay can be used to date a fire.
