Since the surface is to crowded the barnacles are attaching themselves to other barnacles, making the  rock to crowded so the muscles were not able to grow or attach themselves to the surfaces of the rock and they cant attach themselves to coral same thing with the mussels that are trying to growing on the rock so not only can the barnacles live on the rock, but Mussels as well cant live on the rock.
