Compare and contrast the features of a river near its source and far down along its course. Near its source, a river is fast moving and flows on a steep mountain slope. It rapidly erodes a V-shaped, steep-sided valley. Its course may include waterfalls and rapids.

River gets slow and polluted in the downstream channel as compared to its characteristics at origination point. Also the Channel width and depth also changes.

Explanation:

A river when originates form a location has intense speed and the channel of its flow near to the source of origination is less wide and shallow. While as the river moves down , the flow channel of the river increases in both depths and width.  

The speed of water in downstream channel is very low as compared to its speed at the origin point. Also at the origin point river is more clean and clear while in the downstream channel the river becomes turbid and impure.
