Osmosis is a passive transport hence nor energy is expended during the process (different from active transport).  In osmosis, water molecules move from a hypotonic solution to the hypertonic solution through a  semipermeable membrane until equilibrium is achieved (that’s is, both solutions are isotonic to each other).
