Fish, such as the half-moon fish and the Pacific blue tang feed on the kelps of the kelp forest. This transfers the carbon to from the plants to the primary consumers. These fish may be eaten by other bigger fishes up the food chain. When the fishes die, they are broken down by bacteria in the water through the process decomposition. These bacteria respire and release carbon dioxide in the water. This carbon dioxide is taken up by the kelps that use it in photosynthesis hence the carbon cycle.
