Eclipses are caused when either the moon or the Sun blocks the other from visibility on Earth.

A Lunar Eclipse is when the moon vanishes from sight. A Solar Eclipse is when the sun vanishes from sight.

It's difficult to give specific time ranges for when eclipses occur. A Solar eclipse is only visible from one place on Earth, and after a solar eclipse, that same spot won't see another Solar Eclipse for 350 years! Contrastingly, a lunar eclipse is visible everywhere, and has different degrees: there are partial lunar eclipses, full lunar eclipses, penumbral eclipses (which are so vague they are only noted by scientists for studying). Lunar eclipses come in seasons, and there can be some years where multiple full lunar eclipses occur (three full lunar eclipses occurred in 1982) and some where there are none at all!
