Understand how fossils, the law of superposition and geologic timescale support the theory of evolution.

Archaeologists and palaeontologists will use the layers/strata in rocks (law of superposition) to calculate geological timescales of events signified by these strata. In such rocks the bottom-most layer is always the oldest. Fossils found in these strata can therefore be well dated and also relate them to the postulated environments in which the organisms may have lived in the past. This supports the theory of evolution since fossils found in different strata have differences in morphology as an adaptation to the environment in which they are found.
