Explanation: The Encaustic Paintings of the first century were majoritively found in a region of ancient Egypt called Necropoleis of Fayum. Roughly 900 of these paintings were unearthed, and all were well preserved due to the hot and dry Egyptian climate. Greek artists practiced this art form as early as the fifth century B.C. The Fayum portraits were then introduced centuries later by Greek painters who had visited or settled in Egypt.
