Can you think of a reason why the political atmosphere in ancient times would change how art was created

Well as we know, political discussions usually have strong emotions behind them. So the charge in emotion can help create art. Adding to that, people can visually express how they feel about certain things through art. Modern day times we tend to do this through political cartoons. But we even expressed how we felt through art during 9/11.
