Rite of Passage: One of the theories proposed for the context of prehistoric cave paintings is that they played a part in organized rites and rituals, particularly rites of passage. These rituals, conducted in caves, would have helped to strengthen group identity. These rites of passage connected the individual to the community and, perhaps, to something beyond both the individual and community. Have you experienced a rite of passage, or an initiation?
