Which explains why a channel like MTV could not have been developed in the 1950s? There was not as much interest in music in the 1950s as there was in the 1980s.

There were very few channels, so each provided a variety of programming.

In the 1950s, television was not sophisticated enough for musical performers.

There were not enough musicians to justify devoting an entire channel to music.
