The United States of America was created on July 4, 1776. Due to increasing population, there was a need for territory expansion. Her expansion led to the Spanish - American war in 1898, because Cuba was a Spanish territory. She won and occupied Cuba for several years after the war.

United States acquired and increased her land mass either by annexation, war, expansion. Some of the countries that laid claim of America are; Britain, France, and Spain.
