By the belief, when a person I mummified heart is put in the pot, and later it is weighted (as shown on the picture) in the underworld so it could be determined if it balances with the feather. If a person did not have a good character and intellect, the heart wouldn't be in balance, and it would be devoured by Amut, part alligator and part hippopotamus god, standing by the scales. It would mean the person was denied joining the afterlife, and this non-existence was the worst punishment.

On the right side of the image, we see Horus, the god of the sun, who has the falcon head. He is presenting the deceased here to Osiris, his father, and the god of the underworld.
