To begin, the highest score to be received is a 9, in the event the writer uses evidence and explanations correctly and defends their position by applying at least 3 sources to the text. The prose demonstrates a consistent ability to control a wide range of the elements of effective writing and contains a high level of sophistication with an impressive vocabulary. The essay being written must have a clear thesis and explain all areas of the argument correctly. Additionally, the body of the essay should not stray from the thesis. AP scoring individuals are highly trained and will examine these characteristics as well as errors in spelling and grammar.
