Help??? this is 12th grade ap psychology
Part A: 1 point
Response must describe a negative relationship between the variables.
Response may refer to the statistics but must use the terms ânegativeâ or âinverse.â It is not enough to indicate simply that results show a correlation.
Uses term:
¡ Negative or
¡ Inverse
Examples might include the following:
¡ Score: âDr. Aguileraâs research shows that students who have higher anxiety show worse academic performance.â
¡ Score: âThere is a negative relationship between academic performance and anxiety.â
¡ Do NOT score: âThere is a correlation between academic performance and anxiety.â
Do NOT score attributions of causation, such as the words âcause,â âinfluences,â or âaffects,â UNLESS the response uses these terms to indicate that causation CANNOT be inferred with these data.
Do NOT score answers that indicate a positive relationship.
Part B: 1 point
¡ Response indicates that there is no relationship between these variables. or
¡ Response indicates that the relationship is nonsignificant.
Examples might include the following:
¡ Score: âThese data show that there is no relationship between hours slept per night and GPA.â
¡ Scoreâ âDr. Aguileraâs study shows that the relationship between hours slept per night and academic performance is non-significant.â
Do NOT score attributions of causation, such as the words âcause,â âinfluences,â or âaffects.â The response may use these terms to describe that causation CANNOT be inferred with these data, but this alone is an insufficient response.
Questions 5: 4 points total
Part A: Epinephrine 1 point
Response should indicate that the physical responses to fear that the body produces include the release of epinephrine.
Examples might include the following:
¡Score: âBrandonâs body will produce a chemical called epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) in response to being scared by what might be in the shadows. It is related to the fight-or-flight response as it prepares the body for action in the face of danger.â
Part B: Peripheral Nervous System 1 point
Response should indicate that the system of nerves, which does not include the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system), affects the way that Brandon or his dog can physically respond to the potential danger.
Examples might include the following:
¡Score: âThe peripheral nervous system includes the messaging system for the voluntary movement of the body including limbs. Brandon would have to rely on the proper functioning of his peripheral nervous system if he decided to find a heavy branch to protect himself from the potential danger.â
Part C: Occipital Lobe 1 point
Response should indicate that the visual information from the eye is organized and given meaning by the occipital lobe, which affects Brandonâs or his dogâs ability to properly assess the current situation.
Examples might include the following:
¡Score: âBrandonâs eyes are having a hard time getting enough light to see anything by shadows. Eventually, enough visual information is transmitted to the occipital lobe for his brain to confirm that he was looking at a small brown bunny and not a bear or cougar.â
Part D: Natural Selection 1 point
Response should indicate that the process of natural selection affected Brandonâs or his dogâs response to the situation.
Examples might include the following:
¡Score: âBrandonâs ancestors (ancient ancestors) survived successfully by attending to and responding to sounds and other environmental signals that might indicate a threat. This trait of distinguishing signals of threat from nonthreat were naturally selected by allowing those humans who had that trait to live long enough to reproduce, while those without this trait did not.â
Question 6: 7 points total (1 point per letter)
Part A: Top-down processing: Perceiving information which is impacted by his past experiences. Experience in bull riding, he judge and perceive the situation based on his perceptual set (past experiences)
Part B: Size constancy: has trouble maintaining size constancy, as he doesnât realize how big the bull is until he approaches it closely
Part C: Signal detection theory: we are far more likely to detect stimuli if we are âwaiting for itâ/seeking it, so when he is waiting for the buzzer, he will be more likely to hear it when the bull is released.
Part D: Retinal disparity: a binocular cue used to judge distance and depth, based on how the disparity of objects. He judges the distance from himself to the gate, using disparity
Part E: Lightness constancy: our brains attributing the same amount of lightness/brightness to an object, despite the light reflected on it. The bull is black to begin with, and doesnât appear any brighter in the stadium lights
Part F: Cones: are used for fine detail and color vision. He perceives the colors of the stadium, the lights, etc.
Part G: Vestibular sense: sense of body position. He feels himself sitting on the bull, keeping his equilibrium when riding, etc.
