"There has been a lot of research and an equally large amount of money spent on teaching animals (especially apes) language. Research some of the work done trying to teach animals language and write a 150 to 200 word essay to summarize the research. What gains and losses have occurred and have we taught animals to communicate and to what extent?"

A lot of money has been spent on trying to teach animals (specifically apes) language. Researchers for the first time have taught apes to speak. They have been able to hold conversations with humans. A 2o-year-old orangutang called Chantek, is a few miles away at Atlanta zoo where it is learning to use voice synthesizer. A skill expected to master quickly since it has already had a 2,000-word vocabulary in sign language.

Gains that this has is that animals can better grasp the meaning of language better and enhance it than humans. Animals learn while looking at humans and how they do things. Sometimes when they try to communicate it doesn't always turn out great. The wording is messed up and sometimes doesn't make sense. That's one of the downfalls.
